Karl "Chicco" Nacion is a sports writer based out of Toronto, Canada. He’s currently a basketball news editor for theScore, writing breaking news and desk features for the NBA, WNBA, and college basketball.

Chicco provided on-site coverage from the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis. He’s also traveled to Storrs, Connecticut and Baton Rouge, Louisiana to do written profiles on Paige Bueckers and Flau’Jae Johnson, respectively.

Chicco provides year-round tennis coverage, too, for theScore. He sets up each of the season’s four Grand Slam events and covers the National Bank Open in Toronto every summer.

Chicco’s first job out of journalism school was a two-year stint with CBC Sports as a senior writer for their digital team. His duties included managing the outlet’s website and pitching original story ideas. He has interviewed some of Canada's top Olympians — Andre De Grasse, Charles Hamelin, Kia Nurse — and some of the bigger names in pro sports, including LeBron James and Serena Williams.

Chicco accumulated plenty of experience in the field through those interactions. He reported live from multiple major sporting events - including the 2017 MLS Cup final and the 2017-18 NBA playoffs - and shown an ability to file stories within tight deadlines.

The CBC was also Canada’s official Olympic broadcaster, allowing him the opportunity to be part of their extensive coverage for two different Games. As an associate producer for the 2016 Rio Olympics, he was primarily responsible for communicating with sponsors to ensure objectives were met as well as promoting their content through social media.

A few years later, Chicco wrote features for the company’s digital coverage of the PyeongChang Olympics. He spoke with ex-Olympians to preview upcoming competitions and interviewed Sochi gold-medallist, Dara Howell, about the overwhelming reality of being an Olympic champion.
